The Unit Crest
and Motto of the
2nd BN (AW) (SP) 174th ADA

Caveat Oppugnator

The Latin motto of the Battalion, is translated

"Let the aggressor beware"
This expresses the confidence, strength, and defensive nature of the Battalion's combat mission.

The ADA Unit Crest, used by this Battalion, was originally approved for the 180th Antiaircraft  Artillery Gun Battalion, Ohio National Guard by the office of the Quartermaster General on 21 May 1952.  In January 1961 it was redesigned for the 174th Artillery, Ohio National Guard.

The red and yellow colors of the crest are the artillery colors. Because of service in Hawaii during World War II, a pineapple is used in the upper right quadrant of the crest.  The Barry Wavy, symbolic of the Pacific Ocean, represents the Battalion's active service in the Western Pacific during World War II.
