Headquarters Trains for Realistic Vehicle Recovery Operations Every month we train on the usual areas that someone decides we need work in. The Platoon Sergeant asked the section what they think they needed work in and one of the areas was Vehicle Recovery. Most of the training on recovering vehicles is on nice smooth flat surfaces or areas that we would not usually be on drill weekends. This is where we would do most of our operations until we head to the field and sometimes that is too late for what these operators found out this weekend. So an area was chosen to be safe, realistic and not to far away from more personnel if needed. They staged a Hummer down over a somewhat steep bank in the woods. They were given the task and standards by the motor sergeant and then proceeded to recover this vehicle. Always keeping safety in mind while using this large wrecker is very important. They did in fact recover the vehicle within a couple of hours. They did not rush but simply followed procedures like they have been trained. |
